If you choose to write about suicide, make sure that you approach the topic with sensitivity and really look into the guidelines and suggestions that are publicly available. Most of all, consider your audience. They, after all, are the ones who will be reading it.

Suicide can be a release from pain, at a time when the only thing you can think of is the pain. Things like family, friends etc are difficult to consider when you hurt that much. The sad thing is that more often than not, the situation you're in does get better.
I haven't tried or thought of writing a scene with a suicide in it - I guess I'll be more comfortable writing it as peripheral to the story - I guess to make it a central theme - I'd have to be really in that mindset. Thanks for a very thought-provoking post! Take care x April 7, 2011 at 11:02 AM.
Reading books about copywriting, marketing, and persuasion will help you get out of your head and understand that regardless of what story you write, including stories you write about yourself, you are ultimately writing for other people. That is if you want to have an audience and career.
I have a pen and a paper, about to write a suicide note but all I can see online is sites telling me not to kill myself. I’ve been battling depression for more than 3 years now and the only thing that keeps me going is me thinking of everything will be better and I’ll be in a better place but it’s taking much time.
When Felix died I searched for answers and for many months researched everything I could find about depression and suicide and then took it upon myself to write his story in all the local papers around our area as there had been a number of teenage suicides occurring and the local media had taken on the role of bringing this to public attention.

Suicide survivors often tell stories of having a perfectly ordinary conversation with their loved one only an hour before they commit suicide. Often plans are even discussed for the next day, week or even that night. One son had just put a deposit down on a month-long writing program only that week. Everything about that last conversation is.
I dreamt of distant worlds where angels lived alongside monsters. Only angels would have been boring. They would walk along holding hands and perhaps quarrel a few times.
This piece carries a heavy trigger warning. Please be careful. My suicide attempt story is like many other suicide attempt stories, I’d imagine. It beings with an unrelenting mental illness (bipolar disorder), goes on to include painful events outside of my control and ends in an attempt on my life.
To write a truly comprehensive account of what it’s like to live in the long shadow of a family member’s suicide would be to write a book either brutally sad or brutally boring.
